How we verify water heater pros

Every pro on VettedHeater passed the same checks against public records. Last full check: October 22, 2026.

1. License data from the CSLB

We download the CSLB list of all C-36 Plumbing licensees with bond and workers' comp data (CSLB Data Portal, List by Classification (C-36)) and keep only licenses with a CLEAR (active) status and an address of record in San Diego County.

2. Bond and workers' comp

We require a contractor bond on file with no cancellation date and a workers' comp status that is either a current policy or an exemption. Pros whose CSLB record shows no current workers' comp, or an expired policy, are left out until the record updates.

3. Proof of water heater work

We require a page on the business's own website that advertises water heater installation, replacement or repair, and we check that the license number on the site matches the CSLB record. Listings without a license number on their site, or with only a menu link to water heaters, are rejected.

4. What we show

Each profile shows the license number with a link to CSLB, status, classifications, bond, workers' comp, the evidence page and the date checked.

What we don't do

Found an error?

Licenses change. If something looks wrong, check CSLB first, then tell us so we can recheck it.
